Tiny Review: The Voyage by Katherine Mansfield

This story begins with Fenella, a young girl, her father and grandmother rushing across the wharf. They board a ship, but Fenella’s father soon disembarks, leaving her with the impression that she will be separated from him forever. While they are on the ship, we learn that Fenella’s mother recently died, thus explaining her exodus with her grandmother. Throughout the story, Fenella’s grandmother seems kind enough,  but more matter-of-fact than affectionate. I was left wondering if little Fenella would know the true love of family in her new home or rather feel out of place, even in the way. My fears were assuaged once they arrived at her grandparents’ home. I will leave you to discover why.
